In the interview with Steve Martin, David explained that the funding's primary goal, "The announcement is really around commercialising these fuels," he said. He noted that while Australia has the technology ready today, there is an "economic gap" that makes newer fuels more expensive than traditional fuels. This fund is designed to "bridge that... price gap so that these fuels can scale" and become widely available.

The push for these fuels offers two major benefits for Australia:

1. 80% Reduction: Environmentally, they can deliver at least an 80% reduction in carbon emissions compared to existing fuels.

2. Fuel Security: They also address a major national vulnerability: fuel security.

"Australia is one of the biggest users of liquid fuels globally... yet we import about 90% of our liquid fuels," Developing a domestic industry that uses local agricultural and forestry residues is a vital step towards Australia’s self-sufficiency.
