HAMR Energy joins landmark partnership to decarbonise Australia-Singapore shipping corridor
As a key industry partner, HAMR Energy will collaborate as an industry partner with the Port of Melbourne and the Port of Shanghai to help establish a pioneering Green Shipping Corridor.
21 October 2025 – Port of Melbourne has joined forces with the world’s largest container port, Port of Shanghai, with an aim to establish a Green Shipping Corridor between the two ports. The agreement was formalised at the 2025 North Bund Forum in Shanghai, China, on 19 October.
HAMR Energy today announced its participation as a key industry partner in a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Port of Melbourne and the Port of Shanghai, aimed at creating a new Green Shipping Corridor.
The initiative, supported by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, was formalised at the 2025 North Bund Forum in Shanghai. It directly responds to the Clydebank Declaration and the global imperative to decarbonise the maritime supply chain.
As one of the industry partners named in the agreement, alongside Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), COSCO SHIPPING Lines and ABEL Energy - HAMR Energy will play a crucial role in this collaborative effort.
The partnership will focus on:
Implementing measures to reduce the environmental impact of shipping on this major trade route.
Advancing the use of cleaner technologies and renewable energy sources.
Working with shipping lines to promote the adoption of clean-energy-powered vessels.
Exploring breakthroughs in clean fuel production, efficiency, and the creation of an integrated supply chain for low-carbon fuels.
This initiative connects the world’s largest shipping container port (Shanghai) with Australia’s largest in Melbourne representing a significant volume of trade. By focusing on decarbonisation, the partners have an opportunity to create a material and positive environmental impact.
HAMR Energy looks forward to working with the Port of Melbourne, Port of Shanghai and all industry partners to accelerate the shipping industry's transition to a sustainable, zero-carbon future.
